Corrections Chair Report

We continue to add more names of persons volunteering at the Henderson County Jail.

Every volunteer has a Big Book to keep with them to take to the jail. The literature shelf is restocked as needed. We also stock Spanish literature. There is a Spanish speaking inmate a few months ago who was given a BB, 12&12, and Living Sober. We were able to get her in contact with a Spanish speaking priest from Immaculate Conception Church. One of our volunteers speaks Spanish.

I have been in contact with a member of Groupo Gratitud Group in Fletcher and told him of the great need we have for Spanish speaking volunteers. He told me that his group was discussing opportunities for volunteering. I gave him the contact name for the jail. The last time I checked there were 10 Spanish speaking men in the various Pods. Will follow up when I return from attending the 6th Annual National Corrections Conference in Chicago.

Polk County Jail does not have an area where volunteers can bring in an AA meeting. Keeping in contact with Chaplain Osborne is a pleasure. I delivered several Big Books to him which he disperses to inmates and also places them on the book cart. Recently he requested Where and Whens and I will send him the link whereby he can download them.

Rutherford County Jail is closed to volunteers. However, several Big Books were delivered to Ms Justus the liaison

between the jail and United Way. She holds "Recovery Groups" at the jail and is able to disperse them to some of the inmates. I attend an AA meeting in Forrest City every other month at which time I give a brief little talk on service to those who are being released into the communities. I also offer literature and Big Books to members who are actively doing 12 step work with former inmates. A few weeks ago a member from the group met me in Fletcher at which time I delivered 5 Big Books for the above reason. I have a box of Spanish literature to give to them to bring to the jail.

Transylvania county Jail has a solid volunteer group. Last week I had 8 BB. 12&12 Living Sober and many pamphlets delivered to the AA volunteer coordinator up in Cedar Mtn

In Sept(?) month we received about $530.00 worth of literature for corrections from the Central Office surplus much of which has already been disbursed.

We continue to collect group donation from the donation jugs placed with various groups Right now our balance is approximately $67.00

In Gratitude,

Terry G.
