Corrections Committee
Corrections Donations containers have been placed with 11 groups so far. I have spoken with Jail Volunteer Coordinators in all 4 county jails. Henderson County Jail is the only one open for volunteers. The other 3 jails are closed to volunteers. I attended the speaker meeting in Forrest City last month and met AA members from Rutherfordton. 3 containers were left with those groups. I plan to attend the next speaker meeting in a couple of weeks. I would love to have a some of you to go with me. There are 4 groups in Transylvania County and 4 in Henderson County which have containers.
This week I delivered 6 Big Books along with some pamphlets to the Polk County Chaplain who requested them on our initial contact.
I will be meeting with the Contact person who holds recovery meetings at the Rutherford County Jail. She was very happy to accept them.
I spoke with and then met the AA volunteer who goes into the Rutherford Correctional Facility (prison). I offered Big Books to him but he declined stating that they didn’t need any right now.
The literature closet at the Henderson County has literature and a few Big Books. Since there are no male volunteers right now, I have asked a couple of the Blue Ridge Ministry volunteers to take in a couple of Big Books to the men’s pods.
Just recently, I sent out a mass email to the men who signed up to volunteer instructing them to go to the detention center to fill out applications. I will be sending out an email to the female volunteers since I am the only one going in and I need help.
Respectfully submitted, Terry G. Corrections Chair
