DCM Report, GSR Meeting, 12/11/21 @0930

It goes without saying that it has always been my honor and privilege to serve as your trusted servant, your DCM. As I write this report, my final report, I find myself reflecting on a service journey of close to 18 years. I believe my gift of sobriety is a direct result of A.A.’s General Service and I am beyond grateful for our program of Alcoholics Anonymous and my loving God for this treasured gift. Because this is our election meeting, I decided to lead with these very personal comments as I truly believe I can’t keep this precious gift unless I give it away. As you contemplate standing for a position this morning, please keep my remarks in mind. I guarantee you, that by becoming a trusted servant in the General Service Structure you will enormously enhance your personal program.

Liz and I attended our Fall Assembly at Lake Junaluska 11/12-14. There were over 250 in attendance. We are normally around 300 and up to 350 in an election Assembly. I thought 250 was amazing given the Covid climate and long distance travel from as far as our NC beach cities. There were a total of 9 agenda items. I’ll touch on the key items. A full report is forthcoming and will be available on Area 51’s website in the passcode protected section.. Here is a brief review of the items. #1, the Area voted to elect Lisa Pardee as Secretary. #2, The Corrections Conference will be back in Aberdeen in 2022. #3, With the proposed venues from the Site Investigation team for 2023-25, a huge discussion ensued with objection to using Lake Junaluska for the 2024 election Assembly. Both distance and size of the venue were the issue. After the discussion, the final motion presented and passed was to switch the Election Assembly from Lake Junaluska to the Spring Assembly site of Hilton Raleigh North Hills and vis versa. #5, The Area Zoom account be utilized on a permanent basis…passed. #6, The Unity Fund was adopted as a permanent budgeted item allowing GSRs with financial difficulty to participate is Area Assemblies. #s 8, 9 and 10 all pertained to the Area website and all passed.

The most moving report of the whole assembly which Liz and I both agree on was from our delegate, Rainer. His love and passion for A.A. is palpable as he talks about today’s climate/issues with regard to any proposed changes while maintaining our primary purpose, and adhering to our traditions. His full report will be posted on the Area Website.

The pre-conferences will be the primary focus for the Area as we begin 2022. D-71 will co-host the Western Region with D-70 on April 2nd. Location will be determined in January. Meanwhile, Rainer is looking forward and is already enlisting the help of all groups and districts in Area 51. He has a challenge for us all. For all those present on Saturday I will have handouts. Those not present, you can go to the Website and to the Delegates corner. He has posted 3, pdf safety packets, which include the yellow Safety Card, a 7 page service material piece titled Safety and A.A., and a printout of our flyer “Safety and A.A”. Rainer is asking us to have workshops, discussions at group conscience meetings and email him with the results of the discussions. He is especially interested in the minority opinions. This is just a beginning with one of a great many topics facing A.A. today.

Liz and I are winding up our 2-year term on the Area Growth and Maintenance Subcommittee. Liz will report on the P-3 Manual. My work on the Area Inventory is now complete. The Inventory questions are complete and there are 4 ways to participate. This is to assure that every A.A. member in Area 51 has the opportunity to participate.
