District 71 GSR meeting

DCM Report

May 9, 2020

I hope everyone continues to stay healthy, safe and are taking advantage of the many A.A. Meetings being offered by our Fellowship via Zoom. I am filled with gratitude during this crazy time to have daily choices of meetings to attend. Kudos to all the Hosts and Chairs who are providing this very appreciated service!!

On 4/23 at 6PM I called a group conscience meeting to discuss securing a D-71 meeting space via Zoom. Though it was not well attended (only 5 groups had GSR representation) we did have a lively discussion. Our Traditions were brought up, specifically #4…”are we breaking it in any way?). I called, shared the groups concerns and had a great conversation with Katy P. our Area Delegate after the meeting. She assured me…” we were not in any way breaking any of our Traditions”. Katy continued to explain…Just look at AA as a whole right now and how we all are navigating through this pandemic with all the restrictions. Our entire AA Structure, beginning with the groups, to the Districts, to the Areas, to US and Canada and AA World Services…our whole fellowship, is trudging through this new world of on-line meetings for all, at all levels and why? It’s what we are all about, it’s what we do… we have but one primary purpose, to carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers!

When I hung up from our conversation, I was more motivated then ever to do and provide all we can during these unprecedented times!! I hope you all are with me!!

With Scott’s help, we have our Zoom space and at our meeting we will discuss how to use this space in addition to our monthly meetings and even after we are physically back in the rooms again.

More food for thought…With meetings being so poorly attended, we don’t have a quorum to vote should issues arise. I have put this dilemma on our agenda. Thus, until our participation increases, I would like to propose that those present at our district meeting constitute the quorum for that meeting should a vote on an issue be required. This motion also applies to the approval of the minutes and the treasurer’s report.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to two of our GSR’s who are stepping up in a huge way. Liz G, GSR, Big Town, though not able to commit to a chair position right now, is willing to assist me with Pardee’s Bridging the Gap. Scott A., GSR HVL Men’s Group, in addition to setting up our Zoom Space, and offer to set-up our D-71’s Website, has agreed to be our Acting Alt. DCM until someone stands for the position. I am beyond grateful for Liz and Scott as I cannot do this alone!

I hope to see you all Saturday am at 9:30, Hollywood Squares Style!!

With AA love and prayers,

Dale L, DCM
